This year the average American holiday shopper plans on spending $536.86 on gifts for the holidays according to the National Retail Federation survey. Using that average budget, MyPoints has created this visual guide to show how to divide that budget along with sample gift suggestions for shopping inspiration.

Since family should come first, 77 percent of the budget should go toward parents, sweethearts, kids, siblings, grandparents, and other relatives. Based on the aforementioned budget this would be roughly $415.50 total, but can be adjusted for your spending preferences. This would leave 13 percent for friends ($72.14), 4 percent for co-workers ($23.59), and 5 percent for all others ($25.63). Within these price brackets, you will find the perfect gift suggestions for everyone on your list in the infographic below. Everyone's list is different and how many people you have in each category will likely vary, but this proves that it is possible to stay within your budget and avoid starting 2014 with a heap of debt.
