Older people in Europe remember what happened in the 1930s. We did not have the same kind of fascism on our American shores...but it has arrived and it is growing under the Bush administration. Two amazing academics I admire are both concerned and writing about this subject. Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism" and Naomi Wolf's "End of America: Letter to a Young Patriot" are both important works dealing with how, under Bush, both America and the world are being controlled by a few.
I however mistakenly watched the Wolf lecture in Seattle on Youtube thinking it was Klein (my eyesight is getting worse and when I searched Klein the Wolf lecture came up). I want to apologize for my mistake in attributing this to Klein in my post, "When Rational Academics Meet the Patriot Movement, It's 1933 Again". Adding to the confusion, I had just listened to Naomi Klein on the Alex Jones show, and it turns out Naomi Wolf also was interviewed by him so that search lead to more confusion.
So much for trying to double check facts as when I double checked yet again before posting my article by googling on Amazon.com, "The End of America" it was attributed to Klein (not Wolf who actually wrote it!)...read on here..."Amazon.com: The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young ...
by Naomi Klein. 4.3 out of 5 stars (298). The Revolution: A Manifesto ..."
So I want to apologize...for a simple honest mistake. But read and listen to both of these women! The point I was trying to make on my Post was that people like Wolf (an American academic liberal) and Klein (a Canadian academic and critic of Disaster Capitalism) are now on the Alex Jones show which used to be simply for people who own guns, think that FEMA is coming to take away their freedom, and we are near a kind of complete chaos in the US.
That two well respected left-leaning academics were on the Jones show at all, and in the interview I listened to, Klein was actually wanting to learn more form Jones as he was ahead of the game in this area, is frankly amazing. The left has met the Patriot movement! I had this experience about eight years ago when I began interviewing Gulf War Vets from the first Gulf War who were very very angry about what had gone on, how their illnesses were being disregarded as psychological or even invented. These soldiers had been used a guinea pigs by private companies to test experimental vaccines on...and they had been made ill. I met a lot of "patriots" and they knew what I knew...coming from Texas...what Bush and co are capable of...what anyone with too much power is capable of...So, once again, I apologize...maybe this will actually help bring the real point to the surface...
