It takes a certain type of character to be an entrepreneur. It's a character that thrives in chaos, sees huge risk as huge reward, and is deeply excited by whatever endeavor they are launching. For many entrepreneurs the time period before their idea becomes a totally solid business is so thrilling that it is almost an addiction. As soon as the to-do list is clear, calm can feel eerily uncomfortable.

There are lists and lists of what helps an entrepreneur be successful. This software can help you organize your priorities, this book can help you lead your team, this motivational poster will help you beat your competition, etc. But all these tools will fall short for the entrepreneur who is at the mercy of their own mind. For the person who carries the "entrepreneur for life" card, there is only one real tool (and it requires no fancy technology) that you need and that is to learn to meditate.

People think meditation is about not having thoughts and relaxing. It is 100% the opposite. It brings a more awakened state to your consciousness and therefore all your actions. It allows the mind to use more of its ability, making the meditator more effective at everything that they do.

Here are some of the ways meditation actually translates into results:

OBJECTIVITY. Being an entrepreneur can often feel like if you add one more thing to what you are doing the entire tower you are balancing on your pinky finger might collapse. Meditation settles the mind so you can more objectively see if all the blocks stacked in the tower actually have to be there or not. After cultivating a meditation practice you might see some blocks might need to be removed or perhaps some blocks should be rearranged. Meditation helps you build a solid foundation and ensures there are no cracks as you build upwards.

REACTIVITY. It's natural to think that if you react stronger or faster that an outcome will get done quicker or match more closely your intention. However for an entrepreneur being quick to react can sometimes lead to careless mistakes which can lead to loss of resources and time. Meditation helps you learn to create space between what you are observing and your reaction time. That space between action and reaction carries huge potential; being able to be in that space longer can literally change the outcome of a situation from a total triumph to a total disaster.

PRODUCTIVITY. There is never enough time. Ever. For an entrepreneur this is a fact. And one of the most sacrificed commodities for a busy entrepreneur is sleep. Unfortunately lack of sleep and over caffeinating doesn't make for more getting accomplished. Meditation is a powerful way to deeply rest the body and mind. When you are meditating you are consciously resting which recuperates your being. If you feel you don't have time for meditation, by meditating you become more effective so that you actually get time back.
