Warren Berger has written about advertising for the past 15 years, for publications that include The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Business 2.0, and Advertising Age. He was a longtime contributing editor at Wired magazine.

Five years ago, he put together a massive tome on advertising, published by Phaidon Press and titled “Advertising Today.” The book was named one of the “Best Books of 2001” by Barnes & Noble, and was also named one of the “50 all-time best books on the subject of media” by the Independent of London.

Berger decided he needed a “commercial break” two years ago and co-authored a book about living adventurously, “No Opportunity Wasted” (Rodale, 2004). He wrote it with Phil Keoghan, lifelong daredevil and host of the Emmy-winning TV series, The Amazing Race. The book was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and more importantly, it encouraged Berger to begin hiking and climbing mountains (well, hills, actually).

He has recently returned to writing about advertising with his new book, “Hoopla,” co-created with Crispin Porter & Bogusky, one of the hottest ad agencies in the world right now. “Hoopla” comes out in November 2006, from Powerhouse Books. Meanwhile, Berger also just completed his first novel, “The Purples.” It deals in bloodshed, treachery, and organized crime. And no, it is not about advertising.

They envisioned their homes, and saw themselves there.

So we've all moved on from John Kerry's gaffe, right? He messed up, he apologized, hopefully it hasn't done too much damage. End of story. Even Tony Snow is supposedly done beating up on him.

But just between Democrats, maybe it shouldn't be the end of the story. Because...

The Foley scandal may be just the opening salvo in what is likely to be the nastiest election season in history.

Even before this story broke, an article in the New York Times last week predicted that roughly 90% of the political advertising that will bombard us in coming...
