Spitzer on Hubris, in His Own Words!

This is just too delicious. An alert reader sent in this tidbit. At Harvard Law School's 2005 Class Day, the speaker was . . . . . none other than New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who, according to the webpost, "warned graduating 3Ls [that's 3rd year law students, for those of you not up on your law school lingo] not to succumb to hubris or the delusion that they are 'Masters of the Universe.'" Ok, I added the emphasis. Evidently Eliot knew all about Tom Wolfe's Bonfire of the Vanities.

Here's how he concluded, if you can believe it.

"I think if you look at the CEOs and the others who have been involved in most of the corporate scandals...they began to think that somehow, the law didn't reach them, the moral boundaries that every one of us understands didn't apply to them. And this was captured in a brilliant t-shirt -- and I don't often end by quoting t-shirts, but it was given to me by an investment banker friend of mine, the last one I had -- and on the front it said, 'Hubris is terminal.'"

Somehow I don't think he was wearing that t-shirt when he visited "Kristen."

Since you've decided to comment on Spitzer's own words, did you read his letter in the Wash post about his efforts to stop the Bush &Co from screwing up our economy, allowing all these bad loans?

Probably not. No one has reported on it.
But its there.
You should read it.
