Enough is enough. Unemployed single mommies should not be giving birth to litters of half term, in vitro fertilized embryos. Especially when they already have a brood of six and are forced to live with their own mother who has filed for bankruptcy, claiming one million dollars in liabilities. I'm talking of course of Nadya Suleman, recent matriarch to America's latest batch of octuplets, AKA the "Suleman Babies: A to H." Call me old fashioned but your progeny's monikers should not take up a third of the alphabet, particularly a wombs worth. Quick Pick should not be a viable option when naming your kids.
Not surprisingly the family is on the defense. Her mother Angela Suleman pleaded that her grandchild machine "is not evil, but she is obsessed with children. She loves children, she is very good with children, but obviously, she overdid herself." No sh*t! Did it not cross her mind perhaps to take up a career in teaching or daycare? That she did not have to gestate and pop each one individually out of her overburdened, unequipped body. I mean what is the point to such a sizable batch of offspring in our age? Does the family have 40 acres to plow with a mule? Are we starting a baby arms race with China? Is she personally raising her own regiment of Joel's Army for when the Rapture comes and we all have to move to Alaska and wage Holy War with the Wicked for Salvation?
With all of the knowledge and technology of modern medicine at their disposal, the doctors themselves were still allegedly surprised to find an eighth infant during delivery, as they were only expecting seven. That's insane. We are beyond the brink of breaching biomedical ethics here. For God's sake what do we need the sonogram to say, TILT!? I mean the incubation fees alone rival a Con-Ed bill for a Hydroponic Grow House in Humboldt County. Nadya has actually had to resort to using donated breast milk to nourish her scions, bringing the long lost Middle Age art of Wet Nursing back into prominence. And we have recently been comforted with the information that they are now all finally breathing on their own. Amazing that the metabolic process of inhaling and exhaling is now considered a portent of a healthy future!
It has also been reported that Suleman has a degree in Psychology and hopes to continue to work towards a Masters Degree. Well it's nice to hope for things isn't it? Because unless they're giving out M.F.A.'s in Similac Dispensation, Feces Cleanup or Stewed Pea Upchuck, I think I hear Avon calling.
I mean its ridiculous. A baby momma 14 times over should not be living with her parents in a modest 3-bedroom house in Bellflower, California. It is not appropriate. Someone needs to find this woman a sizable shoe to grow old in with her spawn along with a lifetime supply of broth and a good rawhide whip so she can raise them right.

I think this actually brings up a very good issue, Mental Health Care. Those who need it deserve it, no questions asked.
Spend the money up front and save us all a litter of problems on the back end.
Maybe the doc needs to volunteer HIS assets to raise all these "little miracles."
I think he'd make a GREAT Baby Daddy.
Biology lesson maybe? Even with the vagina shut down, this woman could have had her WOMB working overtime!!
I personally would never have anymore children than the two I already have. With that said atleast jon and kate and the duggars were able to take care of their children before the tv shows. The duggars are and have been debt free. These guys making money because they allow the public into their private lives is no different than reality show stars, movie stars, sports stars etc. Now onto Ms. Suleman she is insane. Since when did food stamps disassociate with welfare? There is no way a single parent who doesn't work and goes to school full time can take care of one child by themselves let alone 14. To go on national tv and say that she doesn't live off of tax payer money and that she doesn't ask anyone for anything is a complete and total lie. I mean come on she has a website set up specifically to take donations!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!! Get this woamn some mental help and give those children to parents who can afford to take care of them.
How can one think that her decision to have these children is anything short of emotional and financial ignorance?
In reading the financial analysis of the basic costs of diapering, feeding, and transporting to doctors and eventual childcare costs alone, it is obvious that without government assistance or relying on donations she is not capable of providing for these children.
Even if companies and people step up to help (for the benefit of the children – not because of her), her ability to provide the emotional and physical attention these children will need and deserve is highly questionable. We don’t let people have obscene quantities of cats, dog or pets in a home that is not equipped to handle them. It appears as though cramming that many people in the existing home borders on the same obscenity. A home of 1,569 sq. ft. divided by 17 people provides a total of 92.3 sq. foot per person!
No one wants these kids to suffer. Yet how do we as a society help provide for these children’s needs without reinforcing this woman’s selfish indulgence and encouraging others to act so irresponsibly?

Can anyone tell us what the IVF constraints are for the male donor? I suspect this poor guy thought he was donating so she could have one child....once he made the donation did he have any control over the number of times it could be used? you would think he should have to continue to sign off each time so I wonder if he was as blindsided as everyone else with all these babies. Since he was not an anonymous donor it would seem that he should have been consulted each time, but i suspect that is not the case. I think she conned him into agreeing to donate as a way to "prove" his love/ Anyway I would like to hear some feedback as to what rights he may have had violated by the multiple use or did he actually consent to this.
I was wondering this as well. I read somewhere that he had donated more than once(I do not know how true that is.)
I'm wondering if she will ever try to go after him for child support once she can't milk the 8 baby cash cow any longer.
I would not put it beyond her because look at what she has and is doing for money.
Public aid fraud through the roof so suing her baby daddy seems tame.
Her mother said she refused to marry the father, but I bet she WOULD if he had plastic surgery to look like Brad Pitt.
So would most of the shallow women in this country. Same goes for the men if there was a surgery to make their woman look like Angelina.
Disdain asked: Can someone explain to me how this woman is able to receive government help after receiving $165K in compensation?
Yes, it's called milking the system. She gets $500 in food stamps and $1950 in disability payments for 3 of her kids. That's $2500 a month. And that doesn't include what she'll get for the potential problems that these octos are going to have. And she's going back to school in the Fall? Who will pay for that? She's already used her college aid for IVF as she admitted to in the Curry interview.
Thank you, Warren! Yours is the best piece I've seen on this weird subject. (Weird, but I'm still fascinated).
Once these kids get old enough to realize what their mother has done to them - no trips to Disneyland, no trips to anywhere, 15+ people and 1 bathroom, no privacy, no personal property, nothing but hand me downs, special ed, merciless teasing, no nothing normal, they will turn on her like Lord of the Flies,
That enabler grandmother is just as guilty. She played the martyr and foolishly cared for the Nadya's first six children without demanding much help or financial responsibility of her "baby-loving" daughter...no wonder Nadya thought another few wouldn't be any more trouble. The first 6 weren't, to her. All teens have a case of selfish baby-want; it is up to the adults in their lives to get across to them that babies are not toys and will become expensive, time-consuming toddlers, children, teens, and beyond.
Normally I hate the use of the term "bitch" applied to women, but in this case I'll make an exception because it is so apt!
Not all teens have a case of baby want, infact I remember clearly stating as a child, teenager and adult I am now. That I did not want children, I do not hate them, or even dislike them, I just am very sure that having children is not my desire in life. I remember people would always say "oh you'll change your mind" and my grandmother (who had 5 children and then RAISED me because my mother was like Miss Suleman, more obsessed with what her desires were than the welfare of her children) would say "No.. she doesn't have to"
I do agree tho that parents, friends, family and such need to realize their imput is important. Many women my age, think that a child is just the thing you do at a certian age. I was always lucky enough to have a family that supported my choice
This woman wants to counsel people? What? She's mentally ill herself! I heard somewhere else that she wanted to host a TV show on parenting. What!? The founders would probably think twice about adding "liberty" to the founding documents if they knew this was coming. God help us!
I love delusional people. Until they start spending MY money!
That said, never trust a Psych. Major.
Are we really surprise? We are living in a society that glorifies and rewards irresponsible behaviors. You cut that support and watch how fast the number of unexpected pregnancy drop. They will think twice about spreading their legs if they had to face the prospect of raising those children on their own without that government check. You keep giving and they'll keep taking! Think about that next time you pay your taxes!
Can someone explain to me how this woman is able to receive government help after receiving $165K in compensation?
before organized government assistance and roe v. wade there were still many unplanned pregnancies. some girls were shipped off and their babies sold as soon as they were born, others took poison or threw themselves down flights of stairs. and of course the back alley and at home with a knitting needle abortions. as long as there have been people there have been unplanned pregnancies. it just depends on societies overall view of it how much it is hidden or made to "disappear."
You do know these weren't "unplanned" pregnancies?
Compensation for an injury cannot be considered income. It's to repay the victim for their loss. Not quite sure what she lost, though.
Suleman just became the perfect poster child for the out of control entitlement mentality in this country. It apparently never occurred to her when she decided she "wanted" to have more kids that she and her family would be forced to become wards of the state. Obama says he wants to bring back accountability. Let's see it.
So what are you proposing? Denying Suleman aid because she's irresponsible? (It's not likely she didn't know that her family would "become wards of the state" - she already was on assistance.) Let the kids starve? I mean, those kids aren't just abstractions. They're actually little tiny people.
The kids come first, dude. regardless of how wacked out momma and daddy are.
This is the reason for having contraception in the stimulus bill. Studies show that it is more costly for medicare and Federal Aide for many of these mothers than it is to pay counselors to train them in ways of not having so many children.
In this case, this woman needs major psychological counseling to find her problem and need for all of the children (only child syndrome, never feeling loved at home, or something on that line).
THIS is what counseling is for. This is why federally funding for counseling centers and planned parenthood clinics that provide abortion, denied under the Bushes and Reagan, should be changed and allowed (I believe Obama was changing it).
No one likes abortion, but the centers and clinic also offer counseling, contraception, medical care, and a last choice solution that may be necessary.
Should the babies be taken away? Should a judge make sure the woman uses her revenue from baby marketing and book sales to hire several nannies? At least there should be a social worker, correct?
To say the least. These guys make the Brady Bunch look like a nuclear family and they definitely will need more than once Alice to cope.
Unfortunately, I believe the Repubs made them take the contraception part out of the bill.
