More than a dozen stately wooden tall ship schooners call the harbors of mid-coast Maine home and lovingly carry on the tradition of sailing where the winds and tides demand. These handsome schooners that once carried lumber, granite, fish and ice on routes stretching as far south as the West Indies, now welcome passengers on 3 to 6 day excursions.

These magnificent ships are maintained by dedicated owners who have lovingly restored and retrofitted them: Many have even been declared National Landmarks. These tall ships sail the calm waters of island-dotted Penobscot Bay. Consider it a casual camping experience with cozy cabins, able captain and crew, magnificent scenery and down home cooking that will have you salivating for every meal. Come along on our photo journey aboard the Schooner Grace Bailey on a 4th of July cruise.
