J.J. Abrams Pulls 'The World's Biggest Diamond Heist'

Never one to limit himself to a genre, J.J. Abrams is jumping out of the bold world of outer space and into a different sort of action. The Hollywood Reporter posts that Paramount has grabbed the rights to Joshua Davis' Wired article "The Untold Story of the World's Biggest Diamond Heist," for Abrams to produce and possibly direct. The article, which will be published in the magazine's April issue, outlines the true story of a massive diamond heist in Antwerp, Belgium. In 2003, thieves cracked 10 layers of security to make off with a sweet amount of loot -- an estimated $100 million in diamonds, gold, and jewelry. 1

Super producer/director JJ Abrams will be making the jump from science fiction to crime thriller with his next project according to Variety. The man who was suspected then sentenced to ten years in prison for being the ring leader of a group of thieves who made off with over 100 million dollars worth of goods from the Antwerp Diamond Center. 3

In 2003, a small group of Italian thieves managed to avoid 10 levels of security to access the Antwerp Diamond Center's underground vault. 2
