Technicolor taps Tim Sarnoff

Sarnoff will be tasked with building up Technicolor's visual effects and animation businesses and expanding the company's work in games. Ahmad Ouri technology and marketing, said, " The lines are blurring between content creation/production and post-production. Sarnoff, who will report directly to Technicolor chief Lanny Raimondo, told Daily Variety that Technicolor execs recognize " the convergence of movies and games and visual effects. 2

The new division will focus on animation, games and visual effects -- developing Technicolor's animation operations in Bangalore, its VFX operations in Beijing and those grouped under the MPC brand in London, Los Angeles and Vancouver. In January, Sarnoff stepped down as president of Sony Pictures Imageworks, where he had spent twelve years and also contributed to setting up Sony Pictures Animation. Before Imageworks, Sarnoff was senior vp, Warner Digital Studios after joining Warner Bros. Animation in 1989 to set up Steven Spielberg's animated series "Tiny Toon Adventures". At Warners Animation, Sarnoff managed the production of more than 400 episodes for such series as "Animaniacs," "Batman," "Pinky and the Brain" and "Superman". 1
