Female students in the Gaza Strip will be required to wear head coverings and full-length robes beginning this school year, the Hamas rules of the Gaza Strip announced on Monday.

According to the new regulations, any female student that does not attend class in the proper attire will be sent home.

The ministry also has ruled that male teachers cannot teach in girls' schools and women are not allowed to teach at boys' schools.

A London-based newspaper Al-Quds al-Arabi reported recently that the organization's Gaza government had recently approved a series of laws, a Muslim code of conduct of sorts, meant to guard Muslim religion and morals.

"Since 2008, more than 2,000 new companies have been registered with the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. Where heavy fighting once raged, there are now state-of-the-art shopping malls."

Gazans are green ( pun intended) with envy. Weell, they chose Hamas. Enjoy.

Query:
How come none of your "quotes" ever have a source? Are you still smarting from the last time your sources were unmasked?

What is funny is the manner in which you post your Arab propaganda and half-baked theories about the Middle East.

Isn't this also on the Jewish side. I think these guys are even worse when it comes to woman's rights.

Here is the story;

"These breaches of purity and modesty endanger our community," said 38-year-old Elchanan Blau, defending the bearded, black-robed zealots. "If it takes fire to get them to stop, then so be it."

Giant difference: Israel is a secular society whcih allows many political and regious manfestations from communist parties in Knesset to religious fundamentalism.
Whereas in Gaza, Hamas is trying to control the society with measures such as Iranian inspired ( no surprise) "modesty police" and other measures to subjugate the society.

If Jewish fundies show up at some party night spot in Israel they'd be laughed right out the street.

Unlike democratic Israel, I've yet to see a communist party represented in American Congress.
I'll even settle fro a socialist party. LOL.

Observation:
...unless you belong to an Arab political party, in which case you are routinely ejected from the Knesset and have to undergo the seasonal ballot blacklisting efforts every time an election comes do.

Query:
So how come Zionists waited until /after/ they had driven off half of Palestine's population before setting on a democracy? Not worth it unless it could be held in the tyranny of the "Chosen" majority?

With Palestinain Arabs this story repeats with puzzling regularity.
Step 1: A would-be Saladin comes with promises of that orange grove near Tel Aviv their great grandfather lived near.
Step 2: Saladin Jr. uses selfsame Palestinian to attack Israel.
Step 3: Catastrophic military loss.
Step 4: Period of calm. Next Saladin emerges.

Anything but real peace negotiations.

List of 20th century Saladins: Mufti of Jerusalem; Nasser; Assad; Sadat; Soviet Union; Arafat; Abu Nidal, Hamas; Saddam Hussein; Ayatollahs.

Why is this a story? The people of Gaza voted Hamas into power, knowing what they were going to get regarding Muslim ideology.

Observation:
Ostensibly, Palestinians were given a choice between Hamas, and a corrupt political party that has continuously been caving into Israeli land grabs.

Well, West Bank is thriving with development, and relative prosperity
And Gaza is introducing Sharia laws after sustaining a devastating defeat in a war.
Wrong choice, Gazans,

So children who are not wearing the proper school uniform will be expelled in Palestine....? The same rule applied at my school and still does apply. Your skirt must be below th knees but above your socks, you must wear you blazer whenever you leave the school grounds; even when it is hot; you must wear a tie...etc
The point?
Yes the gender-based teacher restrictions seem a bit extreme and as far as I am aware, contrary to the teachings of Islam but the whole uniform thing seems trivial
I guess that because most of the posters here are from the US where there is no compulsory uniform it seems like a big deal.

Huffpost comments are amazing. You come to read about a fundamentalist policy instituted by Hamas and somehow we end up having to defend Israel from outrageous ignorant attacks.

Well, the brave defenders of Palestinain rights need their daily fix of anti-Israeli agiprop.
Otherwise-- the shakes.
Note. None of these seekers for humans rights EVER comment on expulsion of 400,000 Palestinian-Kuwaitis from Kuwait. Ditto for the servitude of Palestinian-Lebanese in Lebanon under the watchful eye of Syria and Hezbollah. Ditto for any number of outrageous human rights abuses in Arab dictatorships.

From now on, all women of Gaza would have freedom to wear a shapeless bag to school or not to wear a shapeless bag and not go to school. Who said Sharia is oppressive!
Certainly no one is Gaza. LOL.

Hamas's 'Sole Strategy is Destruction and Chaos...'
One of the founders of Hamas gives an interview to Der Spiegel:
"Zahar: There are naturally very many weapons around now. Two years ago, one bullet in Gaza cost around €3.50 -- now it would cost 35 cents. The American aid money has been translated into weapons. Thank you, America!"

No big surprise U.E. and US. cut the funds flowing to these fundies.

Hamas is a religious fanatic and nationalistic and terrorist organization. Whether they force girls to cover their head, it does not change the fact that they are largely an Israeli creation as a countervailing force against Fatah and PLO. Now it's time for Israel to cancel this creation.

Significant steps have been taken in this direction. The actual Hamas losses have been carefully hidden by Hamas. Yet the very fact that strategic goal of stopping Hamas rockets has been achieved speaks for itself.

Stop it! Stop fighting your ridiculous wars on the heads of women! This is larger than Hamas. It is larger than the settlements! This issue is about civil rights. It is happening everywhere that religion dictates that women and girls dress differently. Education is a right, not a privilege. Ask yourselves why this only affects girls. Is it so much better to be an orthodox Jewish girl? Whether you use a scarf , a burkha, or a wig, it is still disgusting to demand that your sister dress a certain way before she appears in public.
