ON THE RECORD: New CB 4 chair on striking a balance for the West Side

John Weis's recent election as chairperson of Community Board 4 represented somewhat of a changing of the guard for the West Side body. Weis, 48, a gay activist who moved to the city to work for the Gay Men's Health Crisis more than 15 years ago, immediately shook things up upon taking the post--hinting at how the highly active board will operate moving forward. The South Jersey native, who also spent time working for the New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project alongside City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, opened up to Chelsea Now about local development, nightlife, bike lanes and his ever-changing neighborhood.
