All over Jersey City, organizations, restaurants and individuals will be reaching out this week to those in need to provide them with Thanksgiving meals and other items, and many of them can use more volunteers. This list isn’t exhaustive, but here are a few places offering free Thanksgiving meals:
The Iron Monkey (97 Greene St.): The downtown restaurant will once again open its doors for a free traditional Thanksgiving meal for anyone who needs it. The restaurant is even working with City Hall to provide pick-up services for seniors who might not be able to get there on their own. Seating begins at 1 pm. St. Lucy’s Shelter (619 Grove St.): The shelter will host its annual Thanksgiving dinner, which is open to anyone in need, at 4 pm. The shelter can always use donations of food and other items. For more information, or to volunteer, call 201-656-7201.
The Hard Grove Café (319 Grove St.): The restaurant will serve its annual Thanksgiving meal for those in need between 11 am and 3 pm. Volunteers are welcomed. For more information, call 201-451-1853.
Jersey City Elks Lodge (81-83 Hutton St.): The Elks will be hosting their annual Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless, the elderly and anyone else from 11 am to 3 pm, with turkeys compliments of City Council president Peter Brennan. For more information, call 201-656-5063.
St. John the Baptist School (3044 John F. Kennedy Blvd.): St. John the Baptist and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parishes are hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner from 11 am to 2 pm in the St. John the Baptist School auditorium. For more information, call 201-963-1383.
Coptic Community Center (861 Bergen Ave.): Coptic Community Services, along with former councilman Steve Lipski and his wife Yraida, will host a free traditional Thanksgiving meal from noon to 4 pm. For more information, call 201-610-1009.
Mount Olive Baptist Church (400 Arlington Ave.): The church will host a free Thanksgiving meal after its 10 am Thanksgiving service. For more information, call 201-432-8795.
