Many have argued that under John Howard, Australia was subject to a new found wave of neo-liberalism. Veteran journalist Paul Kelly suggests that this description is inaccurate and that many of Howard's ideals were simply old-fashioned.
In his new book The March of Patriots, Kelly contends that some of the policies of the Keating and Howard governments were not too dissimilar, particularly in regards to economics. At the launch of his book in Melbourne, Paul Kelly discusses some of the big events and policies that have framed our recent political history.
He is in conversation with Julia Gillard and Steve Bracks.
