Yanqui Mike Skowronek is a US émigré to Argentina. After 20 years in logistics, he left Chicago with his Argentine wife in 2003 for Buenos Aires to learn the art of raising grass-fed Aberdeen Angus cattle on the pampas. Following in the footsteps of his "blogfather", the late Steve Gilliard, he began www.yanquimike.com.ar to write about politics and expat issues in the largest community of US expatriates in South America. Disappointed in his search for a bar in which to watch the 2006 election returns, he discovered Democrats Abroad and used his blog to gather support. In 2007, with the help of 50 other "yanquis" in Buenos Aires, he became the founding chairman of Democrats Abroad Argentina. His blog was chosen by Howard Dean's committee to place a blogger in every delegation on the floor of the 2008 Democratic National Convention. His position won him a wikipedia entry and his reportage from Denver was selected for inclusion in the US Library of Congress' collection of Internet material related to Election 2008.
