Facebook's Top 10 Cities For Romance (PHOTOS)

Posted: 02/11/2012 10:13 am

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching, and, for most of us, romance is on the brain. Uptake has analyzed millions of status updates, photo captions and album covers on Facebook in order to bring you a list of the most smooch-worthy spots in the U.S. that people are talking about.

This data is based on analyzing close to 3 million pieces of text from Facebook status updates, photo captions and album names. Our system then extracted thousands of excerpts from this text, relating to "romance," and mapped them to cities.

The resulting list of cities was then ordered by sorting the number of positive statements about "romance" and the proportion of positive statements over all statements about romance.

Hopefully this will kick-start your romantic planning!

The sweet smell of magnolia blossoms and the smooth sounds of jazz floating down streets lined with colorfully shuttered houses; if every single one of your senses isn't seduced by New Orleans then you may be incapable of feeling romance. Facebook users seem to think that The Big Easy is an "easy" choice when looking to be swept away.

Hey, you left out San Francisco. The city by the Bay. Also, how about the Oregon Coast, especially Cannon Beach and environs?

Well said. San Francisco is magnificent. It used to be the Holy Grail http://frenchbook.wordpress.com/2012/02/11/san-francisco-it-used-to-be-the-holy-grail/

Thanks for the link. Haven't clicked on it yet, though. I tried to fan you, but the button didn't seem to be working. Will try again. Cheers.

Love and romance are primarily found between our ears. if you are with the right person, it hardly matters where you are.

You have to be kidding. I live in Knoxville, just a few miles from Pigeon Forge, and I'm here to tell you the place is a tourist trap, not a romantic paradise.

Disneyland? Really? That's like getting married in a Vegas chapel by an Elvis minister. About as fake and tacky as romance comes. Both the Magic Kingdom and Vegas have so much sensory stimulation with lights, noise, etc. that you hardly have to pay any attention to the one you're with. How romantic.

San Diego is romantic, but so is San Francisco. Portland has gorgeous and romantic spots as well. San Antonio, Texas should have made the list and what happened to New York City? Drop Disney and Vegas and add one of these.

These New Orleans houses are shuttered, not shuddered.

New Orleans has "shuddered" houses? Really? Are they frightened, or just cold?

You "beet" me to it! I've found many such errors on this site, perhaps they need an editor who graduated high school.

Is the phallic like cactus in photo # 9 (Sedona) supposed to drum up feelings of romance?

Pigeon Forge????????

What I remember about Pigeon Forge is the tackiest commercial strip I've seen near any national park. The Smoky Mountains are glorious, but you pretty much have to get away from Pigeon Forge to appreciate them.

Yes--it was a crowded, cluttered tourist trap. They do have a lot of wedding chapels there; it seems to be the East Coast version of Las Vegas for quicky weddings. I guess that's sort of romantic.

No kidding. I live in Knoxville, and Pigeon Forge is the reason I no longer go to Gatlinburg. Driving through Pigeon Forge is a miserable job. When they are having a car show, it can take a couple of hours to go a couple of miles. I have a long list of cities that are much more romantic than Pigeon Forge. As far as I am concerned, Newark is more romantic, and that is not a compliment to either place.
