WILMINGTON, N.C. --- Students here are reporting being turned away at the polls.
The problems mostly seem to concern the fact that on campus students often have seperate mailing and residential addresses. On UNCW's campus, for example, students reside at a dorm and receive mail at a university Post Office box.
When addresses could not be verified by poll workers, students were turned away. Some students also say that they never received voter registration cards and they could not find their registration status online.
The following video shows an Obama volunteer on UNCW campus who witnessed what happened.
During North Carolina's One Stop Early Voting, voters can still register, change address, or resolve other problems with registration and vote at the same time. Many students say they never received their voter registration cards despite turning their registrations forms in well ahead of time. They are advised to take advantage of early voting to resolve any problems with registration that may exist.
The Obama campaign is advising students to bring a photo ID when they live on or off campus and are registered; a photo ID and a piece of mail when they live off-campus and are not registered; and official ID and a letter from residence coordinator showing the dorm's physical address when they live on campus and are not registered.
The campaign is also advising students to contact the local Obama headquarters if, despite the evidence of residence on campus, they are turned away.

Its so OBVIOUS its ONLY happening in swing states too! NEVER in say WA where I live where Obama will clearly win... Its always the closely contested races! How is that not evidence enough in itself to easily demonstrate Republican party manipulation?
It sounds to me like repubs are afraid of a full and open voting system. It would seem to me that if you can effectively control a robot on Mars from earth, then you have the technology and capability to hold efficient and indisputable elections, but then bushco always reminded me more of Idi Amin than a leader of a democracy.
Why wasn't this address discrepancy issue taken care of months ago when they were registering students? Is this legal? If you are an out of state college student you are not allowed to vote?
I don't care what the polls say, because so many voters are being turned away, flipping votes, throwing provisional ballots and absentee ballots out, we need to take like 4 or 5 points away from Obama's lead.
You gotta factor in this stuff.
WHY is ACORN getting so much TV attention and not voter suppression???????
EVERY campus should have at least one precinct station for on campus residential students. This should be FEDERAL law. It would clarify the residential sitiaution for all the students and could easily allow their addresses to be checked.
Wherever there is a dorm (or dorm complex) there are certainly enough students to support a polling station.
Advance warning for Election Day:
Even with early voting and no registration harrasment, it still took an Ohio State U student two and a half hours to vote in Columbus earlier this week.

This is a shame and a disgrace. When I reside on campus as an undergraduate, we were advised to use our dormitory and room number as the address and the registrations were done at the residence halls. There should also be a separate portion asking for the mailing address if it is different from the actual address that the person lives. I hope this gets resolved before next election.
If the only way you can win is to cheat and defraud the citizens (remember us, the citizens?), why would you want to win.
No one will look at you as the president! You will never have our respect as president. Don't try to steal it -- you won't be president, even if you do steal it!! You will never be my president!
McCain and Palin don't care how they get the electoral votes - voter suppression, lying, out-and-out election fraud. All they care about is winning - and they have a conservative Supreme Court to back them up.
They can shoot out the tires and smash it up all they want but America is going to drive the Obama bus to the White House...on the rims if necessary!!!
The really good thing about this is that with the coming super-majorities in Congress and the will to use them, if Rove succeeds in stealing the election for McSame, he'll be a lame duck on Jan. 21, and can't do the same kind of damage that Dubya did. The bad thing is that the Nation, deprived of sensible leadership, will sink further into Hell.
You know what, they don't care about the division. Karl Rove has designed issues that will split the country and he knows that divisions create "opportunities" for voter manipulation, and fraud.
They have not cared about the huge number of the population that festered underneath the 2000 fraud, and the realization of the lies that were proffered to the war with Iraq. THEY DON'T CARE.
Oh, but they DO care. In fact, this is exactly what they want. The Rovian brand of Republicans WANTs voters to feel disenfranchised, since that drives the apathy that allows them to be voted into office and to continue their dirty work without being noticed.
The US appears more and more like a third world country. The evidence of voter supression in the US in unbelievable. We definitely need UN representatives to monitor elections in this country.
Republicans have already stolen two National elections (200 and 2008) and now they are out to steal election number 3. Americans should be more outraged than ever,

Its time to place court officials present in each voting place in the country - ready & able to make on the spot arrests for violation of suppressing votes.

The GOP has been responsible for voter suppression for years. They are already filing lawsuits all over the country before this election is even been tallied. if you look at the tone of the GOP campaign, it is all hate mongering, filling people with fear. That is their objective. It;s no wonder that young people don't care to be involved.
It's no wonder most of the young are on our side.
This type of behavior ensures the demise of the repubs. If a individual's first experience at voting is to be rejected because of the political manuverings of the opposite party, you can pretty much bet these kids will forever feel resentment towards repubs. No one party wins election with their base and in the future these folks aren't likely to vote repub.
Are these students able to obtain provisional ballots??
Do not use provisional ballots under any circumstance. Most are never counted.
That's ridiculous. If a provisional ballot ends up being the only way you can vote, you should certainly use one. It's true that many (not most) provisional ballots end up not being counted, but most DO.
The ethical GOP party is at it again, as usual.
