9 Must-Try Single-Item Eateries

Posted: 10/12/11 01:15 PM ET

Lately it seems that more than a few eateries have a singular goal - concentrating on one thing and one thing only, and doing that thing very, very well. We came up with some of the nation's best shops that concentrate on one delicious item, whether it be cupcakes in New York, crepes in Georgia or sausage in California. Do you have a favorite single-item eatery in your town? Let us know!

Cupcake Stop: Cupcakes, cupcakes everywhere - well, that used to be the case during the cupcake craze of 2009. Now that the frosty confections have "jumped the shark," we can concentrate on the amazing, cult-worthy ones like Cupcake Stop in New York City. This "shop" started out on the mean streets of the city in the form of a cupcake mobile. Now they have a brick-and-mortar shop in New Jersey to help peddle out unique flavors of cake like the almond joy, French toast with bacon, and the Elvis - a cupcake made with peanut butter and fresh banana.

Research "Off the Waffle" in Eugene, Oregon, home of the Oregon Ducks. They specialize in Belgian style Liege waffles with a twist. Try the BMB: Bacon, Maple Syrup and Basil topped with Havarti cheese. Unbelievable. http://offthewaffle.com/

Does anyone else think that Kraft macaroni is better than most of what you can get at restaurants?

It's a joke right ? Only one use for that. Cook the macaroni then put spaghetti sauce on it. Use the cheese powder like parmesan by sprinkling it on top.....Al-

If it's the right item, it'll work.

Most of these places will be out of bussiness in a year! One item is not enough!

I'm surprised that McDonald's doesn't want to go after them for the possible infringement of the "Mac"
name like they did that young girl who was doing charity work.

I was thinking the same thing.

Mac and Mc are two different things. One is Irish and the other is Italian.

Been to Hot Doug's and it's okay but, IMHO, there are plenty of hot dog "joints" all over Chicago and suburbs that do the same thing -- and I'm not just talking about the various Hot Doug's locations. I can't understand why they get all the publicity!

the BEST mac and cheese place in NYC is S'Mac on east 12th street b/w 1st and 2nd, the owners are amazing and the food is incredible and the best part is everything is natural and fresh and they even have vegan options!! they also have gluten free pasta. so my friends get to have their favorite cheeseburger s'mac and i get my vegan mac and cheese with mushrooms, broccoli and scallions. They have a sit-down restaurant and a take out one next door so the lines don't intertwine.

I'm all for yummies, though I have to say I am not sure that I love the 'one trick pony' restaurants. If I'm in the mood for that particular kind of food, then yes, I'd stop by. But if a group is heading for some time together over a meal, I seem to think that a more varied menue could be more fitting. That said, there is something cool about the gimic of having only one kind of food served. Maybe it is depends on people's mood if they go there or not.
Personally, if I had to choose one place that has such one-kind-food; I think that the crepes place would win me over (and definitely NOT the baked meatloaf---made me think of sacrilege for cupcakes...) ;)

Oh, but the meatloaf cupcakes are flippin' fantastic!

My next will be Just Toast. How would you like that mam ? Ok, toasted ? Sure. Would you like toast with your toast ? Sure. Apricot preserves on your toast ? Ok, right away. Buttered ? No problem.
Hey, you want Challah toast ? It's on the way.

Not. It's the Starbucks effect. Only coffee. Ok, now we have juice too. Oh, and a cinabun, and a strudel, and breakfast foods, and. Look, get a real menu going on the outset. And if you are really with it, get me to design the menu and create some incredible foods as well....Al-
