A Fashionable Ode to '09

Fashion is constantly obsesssed with what's in and nonplussed with what's out. As such I will ignore any Best of 2008's and focus squarely on what's haute, hip and now: 2009. What lust worthy it-bags, mind-bending collaborations, and beguiling model muses will this new year bring us? Only the future will reveal these, but the past has left plenty of clues. Below is my top ten list of events, projects, and phenomenons that I hope will come to fabulous fruition in the new year...

10. Retail companies rehiring the thousands of employees fired in 2009.

9. Halston and Ossie Clark, both iconic brands which have been given second life, debuting strong second collections that are loved by editors and shoppers alike.

8. Whispers of Christina Aguilera's clothing collection for Top Shop to ring true! (And here's to hoping she also develops a beauty range. I need platinum wigs and red lipstick in my life ASAP!)

7. Speaking of Top Shop...The British store finally opening its first U.S location in New York City's Soho neighborhood.

6. Menswear from Gareth Pugh and Roland Mouret, both iconic designers heralded for their womens collections. I wonder how the yards of monkey fur, favored by Pugh and figure hugging fabrics, used by Mouret, will translate to mens clothing.

5. Giselle Bundchen and Tom Brady's nuptuals. A sexier wedding may never occur in our lifetime.

4. Naomi Campbell's engagement to her billionaire boo, Marcus Elias. Why does this prompt visions of her tossing diamond studded i-phones at happless assistants?

3. Stylist to the stars', Andrea Leiberman's first collection, called simply ALC. Here's our chance to look as good as her major clients which include Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez and Drew Barrymore.

2. Prolific fashion photographer, Tim Walker's first film, scheduled to debut later this year. It would be marvelous to see if his motion picture will maintain the fanciful, fairy like quality of his photo shoots.

1. What Michelle Obama will be wearing for the inauguration. As long as it includes her trademark broach and excludes her penchant for garish prints, I will be infinitely pleased.
