What Men Think They Know About The Art Of The Pickup

By now, the phrase "pickup artist" needs no explanation. Journalist Neil Strauss' autobiographical expose on the subject, The Game, was a New York Times best seller; the PUA community's eyeliner-wearing face man, Mystery, had his own hit VH1 reality show. And while an old Village Voice cover story highlighting the extent to which techniques espoused in The Game (negging, amateur hypnosis, wearing silly hats) had permeated New York watering holes might have been fabricated, The Game's impact is real: If you are a girl, odds are good that a guy has at some point approached you with the line, "You have great hair. Is that your real color?" (Whether it worked or not is another story.)
