U.S. Attorney Defends Little Village Gang Raid

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald is defending his office against criticism that he targets minority communities in Chicago.

Federal prosecutors announced yesterday that 40 high-ranking alleged gang members from Chicago's Little Village neighborhood are facing charges, mostly for drugs and weapons. Little Village on Chicago's West Side is heavily Latino and prosecutors have also arrested people there for printing fake IDs. All that's brought unwelcome attention to Little Village and criticism that Fitzgerald isn't creating good relations with the community. Fitzgerald bristles at that criticism and he went off on an uncharacteristic rant.
