O'Hare Flight Limits End Friday

Federally imposed flight caps aimed at reducing delays at O'Hare International Airport will be lifted Friday, and U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary Peters is in Chicago today to propose other measures to improve on-time performance at the delay-prone airport.

Flight caps limiting O'Hare to 88 arrivals each hour from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays were implemented in 2004 because of gridlock at the airport. The Federal Aviation Administration had considered extending the caps, but the continuing downturn in the airline industry prompted the decision to allow the flight caps to expire Friday as scheduled.
