Face-stabbing, apparently, isn't a formula for a successful stand-alone tech news outlet in tough economic times.
Owen Thomas, managing editor of Silicon Valley gossip blog Valleywag, confirmed Tuesday that the gossip site is being folded into Gawker, Valleywag parent company Gawker Media's flagship site. The move comes as Gawker founder Nick Denton is predicting doom, yet again, for media, both online and off. In a long post to his personal blog, Denton urged publishers to consolidate titles.
Valleywag, which launched two and a half years ago, became notorious as an outlet for some of the tech industry's most delicious gossip. Valleywag Senior Writer Paul Boutin called it "face-stabbing."
