Flocks of women are embracing the eyelash extension, a painstaking specialist salon procedure involving a hair-by-hair attachment of individual synthetic lashes.

Japan famously possesses an insatiable appetite for embracing the quirkiest of beauty fads, from indulging in nightingale dropping facials to dipping their feet into pools of flesh-nibbling fish.

The latest beauty fad to hit the nation, the eyelash extension is a more permanent version of the comparatively prosaic DIY fake eyelashes and lasts for several weeks.
