McCain Claims GOP Working On Budget -- Contradicting Party Leaders

Asked about the Republicans' plans for an alternative to President Obama's budget on Sunday's "Meet the Press," McCain told David Gregory a GOP budget was in the works.

MR. GREGORY: Do you think that Republicans should provide a detailed budget alternative?

SEN. McCAIN: Yes.

MR. GREGORY: With numbers?

SEN. McCAIN: Yes.

MR. GREGORY: Will that happen in the Senate?

SEN. McCAIN: We're working on it, working very hard on it.

However, the Republican plan for the time being is to offer a package of individual amendments to Obama's budget as an alternative of sorts, according to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's office. No actual alternative budget is in the works.

A new web ad from the DNC, playing off the mixed message, paints the Republican party as leaderless and confused in its attempts to respond to Obama's budget.

The ad from the DNC compares McCain's Sunday interview with clips of other Republican leaders talking about their budget plans and asks "Who's driving the Republican bus?" It concludes, "No Leadership. No Ideas. No One Driving This Bus."
