Eric Schmidt: Internet Censorship Is Futile

Google CEO Schmidt said he hoped that the use of websites such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook to spread information about events such as the Iranian election protests -- and the international scrutiny the coverage created -- would "moderate an overreaction by the government".

He said that attempts by governments to block web access were ultimately futile, and do not succeed in isolating citizens either from unfiltered news, or the ability to spread information.
