The state Senate adjourned for the summer on Friday following one of the most tumultuous (and absurd) periods in its history.

The Democrat-controlled Senate was thrown into chaos on June 8, when the 30 Republican senators and two turncoat Democrats staged a coup that temporarily gave the GOP control of the upper chamber.

Democratic senators Pedro Espada and Hiram Monserrate broke with their party, but the GOP triumph was short-lived. Monserrate flipped back to the Democrats a week later, creating a 31-31 deadlock that lingered for weeks. The impasse finally ended when Espada rejoined the Democrats.

Here's a look back in photos on the month-long political circus in Albany.
