'Half Broke Horses': Jeannette Walls Writes True Life Novel

Jeannette Walls' new book seems to confirm that the gene for common sense skips generations in her family.

Her mother, as millions of readers learned in "The Glass Castle," preferred painting to providing food and a snug home for her four kids. Her father, a charmer and alcoholic, gave the children their pick of the Milky Way's stars for "presents." They lived in a West Virginia shack without plumbing while Dad promised to build the hungry children a glorious home made of glass.
