Anti-abortion activists turned out at a Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) event in Harrisburg on Monday to publicly condemn the traditionally pro-life lawmaker.
As Casey began his introduction of a photo exhibit highlighting hunger issues in America, four protesters stood up one-by-one to voice their criticisms.
"Please do not trust this man. He is a liar and he funds abortion," the first activist charged before being removed by security.
Casey has recently come under fire from pro-life constituents angered by his recent support of health care reform even without strict abortion controls.
Casey has been flexible on the healthcare bill's abortion provisions since preliminary legislation emerged from the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee last summer.
The Pennsylvania Democrat was the primary sponsor of an early, albeit unsuccessful, committee amendment that would have kept federal dollars from funding abortion services. He again returned to the center of the abortion debate in December, when he tried to organize a compromise that appealed to both Democrats and the party's lone holdout, Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.).
The protesters informed reporters that they were from Insurrecta Nex, a Washington D.C.-based group of pro-life activists that, among other causes, is fighting to convince legislators to overturn Roe v. Wade.
