Britain's hospital gowns are set to get a Hollywood makeover, thanks to Ben de Lisi, the BBC reports. De Lisi, who has created dresses for A-list stars like Kate Winslet, designed a collection of hospital dresses, pajama bottoms, nightwear and slippers that will be used by the country's National Health Service starting in 2011.
"The old hospital gown was hideous, embarrassing, ill-fitting and probably ill-making too. You are away from home, ill, and in hospital and you have to wear this horrific garment with your arse hanging out. Give me a break. I wanted the new gowns to feel fabulous and aspirational," de Lisi said.
The line is made from de Lisi's signature cotton print. Britain's Department of Health funded the project and noted that although they engaged a famous designer, the new gowns were still well within budget.
