Higher education funding doesn't exist in a vacuum in any state. Texas, like many others, is looking at major gaps in its upcoming budget cycle. Colleges and universities will fall victims to budget-cutting directives just like any other state agency. And after the UT System Board of Regents approved 5-percent tuition increases last week, there's no going back on higher costs of attending this campus. The Tower should be listening after last week, so Stop the Cuts should focus on where it can make an impact, like getting a voice on where cuts may be made in the future and more creative ways to save money on campus. But with so many messages, activists on campus may just create a lot of noise.
