It was finally made public yesterday that Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington tested positive for cocaine last year, but it turns out hard drugs weren't the only salacious element of the story.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Washington and the Rangers were blackmailed last summer. According to Randy Galloway, a team employee demanded a "glowing letter of recommendation." While the ball club refused to accomodate the request, it did meet other demands made by the blackmailer.
Meanwhile, Rangers owner Tom Hicks supports the decision to keep Washington as manager, but issued a "zero tolerance" policy for the future. "I'm comfortable it's not going to happen again," Hicks added.
