Simone Veil Wore Chanel Couture For Academie Francaise Induction

French lawyer and politician, and Holocaust survivor Simone Veil was dressed in Chanel couture last week when she was inducted into the Académie Française last week, WWD reports. Designer Karl Lagerfeld decked Veil in his rendition of the Académie's uniform: "A black tailcoat embroidered with green and gold leaves by Lesage, and a long skirt in black crepe."

The Académie Française has acted as the official authority on French language since 1635. Only six women have been invited to serve as members, called immortels.
