Steve Jobs Offers Scripture-Inspired Reply During iPhone Event Q&A

Steve Jobs offered a humorous response to a question posed during the Q&A at yesterday's iPhone OS 4.

Asked by one person in the audience, "Why have you veered away from widgets on the iPad?" Steve Jobs joked, "We just shipped it on Saturday. And then we rested on Sunday."

(For those who might need to brush up on their Biblical prose, Jobs' response was a reference to one of the first passages in Genesis: "And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done.")

The person who asked the question pressed Jobs, "So widgets are possible?" His response: "Everything is possible."

Steve Jobs' scripture-inspired reply follows on tongue-in-cheek speculation by some that the launch of the iPad--the "Messiah in the form of a tablet"--during Easter weekend was no coincidence.

Xeni Jardin wrote in a tweet, "Conspiracy symbolism of apple releasing ipad at Easter: 1) it is a chocolate bunny or 2) IPAD IS JESUS CHRIST, HE IS RISEN."

Yet during the same Q&A yesterday, Jobs attempted to strike a more humble tone. When discussing iAd, a mobile ad platform unveiled during the Apple event, Steve Jobs said, "We don't know a lot about advertising, but we're learning." He added, "But we're babes in the woods."
