Elena Kagan's Baseball Skills Scrutinized By MLB Players

As President Obama's latest Supreme Court nominee, Solicitor General Elena Kagan is under heavy scrutiny from conservatives and liberals alike. Amazingly, not even her batting stance is exempt from close examination.

MLB.com's Mark Newman asked members of the New York Mets and Washington Nationals to inspect Kagan's batting technique. The players looked at a photograph taken in 1993 at the University of Chicago, where she played softball.

Washington Nationals All-Star Ryan Zimmerman was unimpressed with Kagan's batting grip. "She's got the Barry Bonds choke-up working, maybe that's two strikes on her," he said, adding that "it looks like she's friends with the pitcher or something."

One member of the New York Mets, Kagan's favorite team, held a more favorable view. "It actually looks good," catcher Rod Barajas told Newman. "She's holding the bat the right way."
