Jonathan Alter: How Paul Volcker Was Pushed Out By Obama In 2008

At 81, Volcker wasn't under any illusions about his age. He noticed that people called everyone else by their first name or last name, but only he, and now Obama, were accorded a "Mr." He knew that if he took a position inside the White House as a senior counselor it would be awkward for other aides--like having your father around telling you what to do.
