Gary Pfleider Shot In Iraq, Billed For Treatment By Army

UPDATE: A spokesman for Defense Finance and Accounting Services told Pfleider on Wednesday that he had been overpaid for his last three months in the National Guard, and is now requesting this money back.

HuffPost Impact has been unable to verify the specific reason for the $3,000 bill. We will continue to link to the original article from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer for the time being, but will alter the story if it becomes clear that he is not being charged for the left-behind gear.

Pfleider flew back to the states and recuperated at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. One-third of the muscle in his leg is gone and he'll have to wear a brace for the rest of his life.

And according to the government, he also has some debts to repay.
