Katie Couric, Harry Smith To Anchor From Oil Spill Every Week

CBS News is going all-in on coverage of the gulf oil spill.

The network announced Monday that "Evening News" anchor Katie Couric and "Early Show" anchor Harry Smith will anchor from the gulf region each Monday for the duration of the crisis, beginning next week.

"The oil spill in the Gulf will continue to be a major story for the foreseeable future," CBS News & Sports President Sean McManus said. "Our commitment to anchor live from there at least once a week reflects the importance of the story."

Couric has visited the gulf region once since the oil spill began; Smith's first trip will be Monday. "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams has made two trips to the region since the spill; ABC's "World News" anchor Diane Sawyer has been once.
