Germany-Australia World Cup Headline Evokes Germany's Checkered History

One of the most exciting aspects of the FIFA World Cup is the sense of history and nationalism the event invokes. What better venue for historic rivals like Argentina and Brazil or Italy and France to compete for bragging rights?

With that said, it's probably safe to say the German team, while happy with their 4-0 trouncing of Australia on Sunday, probably want to avoid headlines like "Germans blitz past Australia." As NBC's Out of Bounds blog points out, at least the Denver Post's headline didn't describe a decisive victory over Germany or Austria.
