ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Robbie Conal

WHO: Robbie Conal

WHAT: 'Political Animal: New Drawings and Paintings by Robbie Conal'

WHEN: June 2 - July 28, 2010
(There was a small, private reception held on June 2. See pictures included)

WHERE: Roseark, 1111 North Crescent Heights Blvd
West Hollywood, CA 90046

WHY:

The premiere unveiling of (finally!) my very last in a series I've dubbed The Decade Paintings, "The '90's: CLINTONS' DECADE" (an 8--feels like 10--year, uber-embarrassing, Achilles' Zipper extravaganza), is my excuse for this eclectic one-person exhibit of original paintings and drawings.

"THE '90's" Decade painting features Bill & Hill (both grumpy), little Kenny Starr (nasty), Newt Gingrich (in blackface), Monica (the usual) and Homer Simpson, who delivers a short but succinct disquisition on men vs women. Yes, the painting-or more accurately-Homer, talks.

Buffered by a few of my other gooey excrescences, including "FATHER KNOWS FUCKING FROGS," "THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE SCREWBALL (Fernando)" and the original painting for the "LITTLE WHITE LIES (Jesse Helms)" poster, "The '90's: CLINTONS' DECADE" is the only one of the series of seven large paintings spanning the decades from 1950 to 2000, that wasn't completed in time for publication in our new book, "Not Your Typical Political Animal," produced and designed by Deborah Ross (my bad). The book, along with several individual google-eyed, glittery sperm that somehow escaped from the Bill Clinton section of the painting, is also on sale at Roseark. ~Robbie Conal, June 14, 2010
