Asbury Park, the famed beach destination made famous in part by New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen, is mulling over a proposition to make its beach top-optional thanks to local yoga instructor Reggie Flimlin, according to the AP.
Flimlin told the AP: "Asbury has always prided itself as having an open mind and being accepting and welcoming to a lot of different cultures and lifestyle choices. If not in Asbury Park, where else in New Jersey would a woman have the right to choose whether or not she has to wear a bathing suit top?"
Only one beach in New Jersey, Gunnison Beach on Sandy Hook, openly permits topless bathing (Higbee Beach in Cape May once allowed nude bathing, but canceled that law when people started having sex on the dunes and in the parking lot).
One proposal would be to stick the topless bathing end in a more secluded part of the beach (but a high-rise for senior citizens looks down on that proposed spot). The city council will discuss the issue at a meeting on July 7th.
