Florida Candidate Asked Debunked Obama Birther Claims: 'I'll Have To Look Into It'

Rick Scott, who is running in Florida's Republican primary race for governor against State Attorney General Bill McCollum, seems to have some lingering questions about whether President Obama was born in the United States.

Scott was asked the birther question at a campaign stop on Thursday. The Orlando Sentinal reports:

One man in the audience asked him what he would do about President Obama's "birth certificate" and whether he could legally appear on the 2012 ballot in Florida - referring to now-debunked skepticism from the 2008 presidential race among some conservatives that he was actually born in Hawaii. "I'll have to look into it," Scott said.

The Florida Republican acknowledged that was the first time he had ever been asked the question.

Despite the skepticism, Scott holds a commanding 14 point lead over McCollum, according to a survey released this week by Public Policy Polling.
