Architecture: Herzog & De Meuron's 'Vitrahaus' In Switzerland, On Design Boom (PHOTOS)

Weil Am Rhein, on the border between Switzerland and Germany, packs a hearty design punch. The Frank Gehry-designed Vitra Design Museum sits on the Vitra Campus there (made for Vitra design studio), which now houses Herzog and De Meuron's Vitrahaus - a feat of cool, functional design.

The concept of the 'Vitrahaus' connects two themes which are occurring in the architectural practice of Herzog & De Meuron: the theme of the archetypal house and that of stacked volumes. The five-storey structure is comprised of 12 'houses' - five houses are set at the base in which seven other houses are stacked upon one another. (Design Boom)

Check out our slideshow below of the Vitrahaus - if only they were each separate houses.
