Sam Mason, Radford Fraternity Pledge, Mourned

RADFORD -- The image that Sam Mason's friends described over and over Thursday night, during a vigil for his sudden and early death, was that he wore T-shirts with bright patterns dyed on them and he made people happy by flashing broad smiles.

Some wept while some held each other. And Mason's roommate of three months, Greg Kinstler, said something that explained what many young people feel when a friend dies: It was too soon for him to go.
