LOS ANGELES ( KTLA) -- Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa stepped into an LAX full body scanning device Monday in an attempt to alleviate airline passenger fears and show his support of the TSA.
The mayor stepped into a scanning device in Terminal 6, raised his arms and allowed an X-ray screener in another room to see through his dark suit and peach tie for signs of contraband. Five second later, the screening was done.
The full-body scanners and the TSA have come under intense criticism by travelers with many people saying the scans and the invasive "pat-downs" are a violation of 4th Amendment privacy rights and are not a fail-safe deterrent to terrorism.
