Andrew Cuomo, New York's incoming governor, appears in a very different kind of power list this week: in People's 'Sexiest Man Alive' issue. The attorney general ranked up there with other over-50 members like Sting, Hugh Laurie and Michael Bolton.
The New York Times caught up with Cuomo to get his reaction. "I was," Mr. Cuomo said in an interview, "slightly surprised initially."
Andrew's brother, Chris, who himself was voted in the same issue in 1997, praised the magazine's decision to include the elder Cuomo. "I am happy for my brother, the governor-elect, and his so-called sexiness," he said. "It must be comforting for him to receive kudos from someone other than our mother, who favors him."
Asked why Cuomo received the honors, Liz Sporkin, executive editor of People, explained it wasn't exactly Cuomo's dashing good looks that got him in. "His many years of public service make him sexy," she said.
