Mystifying Oklahoma Meteor Strike Spotted In Night Sky

What appeared to be a "ball of fire" accompanied by a "mysterious flash of light" spotted in Oklahoma was actually a meteor that flashed across the night sky on Tuesday.

The "greenish blue meteor, possibly just the size of a pebble" was spotted from Florida to Oklahoma, according to CBS News. Local police reportedly received calls from concerned residents who spotted the unidentified flying object.

CBS News writes,

The Sebastian County Sheriff's Office told CBS News affiliate KTHV it was a meteor and likely hit near Poteau Mountain, Oklahoma. [...]

There were also reported sightings of the ball of fire ranging from the Florida Panhandle to several locations in Mississippi.

TheWeatherSpace.com says the meteor came from the southeast and travelled northwest, and was emerald green with a red-yellow tail.

Florida news outlet WKRG reports, "Around 8:30 p.m. we began receiving calls about a bright flash of light and a boom."
