Kara Ross Makes Jewelry For Michelle Obama Out Of White House Wood (PHOTOS, POLL)

Jewelry From White House Wood

Look out, Bochic and Ranjana Khan! First Lady Michelle Obama has discovered another accessories designer to adorn her earlobes and wrists, WWD reports.

Meet Kara Ross -- a 20-year veteran of the jewelry biz who was called in for an interesting assignment last year. Ross explained to the fashion newspaper:

"The Chief of Protocols' office saw we did wood jewelry, and they wanted to have some things made by an American artist for Michelle Obama to give to visiting heads of state. They sent us this big chunk of wood from the White House lawn. We made some pieces with it and on each one we wrote, 'Designed Exclusively for Michelle Obama by Kara Ross.'"

Ross added, "I thought, 'How great, with a visiting head of state, giving them a gift by a) an American artist and b) it's literally a piece that originated from the White House.' I thought it was awesome that they even thought of me, to be honest with you."

But not only is FLOTUS doling out Kara's designs, she's also wearing them. Since November, Michelle has been spotted in accessories from Kara's Gemstone collection at least half-a-dozen times, including at the State of the Union.

Check out Kara's work and tell us what you think of Michelle's newest designer du jour.
