98-year-old Alta Wadsack, a die-hard Denver Broncos fan, got quite a shock this week when Broncos pro-bowler Champ Bailey, along with former CU football star and professional skier Jeremy Bloom, surprised her at Invesco field.
The meeting was arranged by Bloom though his program, Wish of a Lifetime, which is focused on "granting lifelong wishes to seniors who have overcome tremendous challenges."
Bloom started the Wish of a Lifetime foundation in October, 2008. Since that time, the organization has sponsored everything from fishing trips, to skydiving, to a woman's trip to visit her ailing daughter.
"I started thinking about [an organization like Wish of a Lifetime] when I was 15," Bloom told the University of Colorado alumni magazine in 2010. "We spent a lot of time in Asia for the World Cup, and I was impressed by the way they treated seniors in that culture -- the respect, the sense of honor for them."
"It's all about the moment," Bloom explained to the Denver Post after watching Baily and Wadsack's exchange. "It's about doing something for someone else. It's a much better feeling than doing something for yourself."
