College Football Crime Results Revealed In Sports Illustrated, CBS News Report (VIDEO)

Sports Illustrated and CBS News completed a joint investigation into crime among all college football players on the preseason top 25 teams. CBS News Chief Investigative Correspondent Armen Keteyian talked about the six-month investigation on the Early Show Wednesday with co-anchor Chris Wragge.

The results revealed some shocking numbers. According to the report, seven percent of the 2,837 players in SI's 2010 preseason Top 25 had been "charged or cited with a crime." Forty percent of those incidents involved serious crimes.

Some of the charges have included assault and battery, possession of cocaine and domestic violence.

Jeff Benedict of Sports Illustrated explained that in many cases, the college football coaches "don't know the full extent" of the criminal history of their players.

Keteyian also revealed that only two schools in the top 25 did regular background checks on their recruits.
