Netanyahu, Justin Bieber Meeting Called Off: Pop Stars Court Controversy With Israeli Politics (PHOTOS)

Justin Bieber's Israeli tour hit a rough patch when tentative plans to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly fell through under mysterious circumstances.

Though the 17-year-old teen sensation's camp said a meeting with the premier had never been scheduled or even discussed, the international media has nonetheless gone into overdrive with "Bibi vs. Bieber" reports.

Still, Bieber is hardly the first star to find himself unintentionally ensnared in regional politics while visiting the Holy Land. Having angered devout Jews for her longtime interest in the Kabbalah faith, Madonna nonetheless wrapped her 2009 world tour in Tel Aviv, meeting with Netanyahu and opposition leader Tzipi Livni in addition to two sold-out performances.

Other artists like Elvis Costello, Carlos Santana and Vanessa Paradis weren't so daring, and have canceled Israeli appearances in recent years.
